In the last week or so, students from 9 Cullman County and City Elementary Schools have participated in the Cereal Drive Sponsored by Citizens Bank and Trust and spearheaded by Loan Officer Josh Campbell. The results have been incredible. We don't have the final tally of boxes as yet, but we at Cullman Caring for Kids/United Way Food Bank sincerely appreciate each child and their parents who helped in this effort.  We do know that there are well over a 1000 boxes which should last about 2 months. CCK/UW Food Bank serves over 600 families per month. Each school participating let each class bring boxes of cereal and these were collected in a central location at the school and were later picked up by CCK/UW Food Bank personnel.   This Cereal Drive has been a tremendous success thanks to the Students and Citizens Bank and Trust.

Publix has recently finished their fall food drive. Each time someone went into the store to purchase food an employee asked if they wanted to help contribute. The community and Publix raised over 5 pallets of food for us. Thanks to the community and Publix our shelves will not be empty.

David Wiggins at East Elementary School is teaching his students how to give back to the community after the shelves in the food bank had reached an extremely low point. The children collected 1,090 pounds of food and over $800 in monetary donations. This will help our food bank feed around 200 families. Currently here at the United Way Food Bank we have started serving over 600 families a month, where last year at this time we were serving a little over 500 families. We can't thank Mr. Wiggins and especially his students for what they are doing in our community.

This is the first year for Holly Pond High School's Key Club to help with Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Since we chose Pinwheels for Prevention one of the members felt she needed to do something, Emma-Grace Daniel lead the effort to plant a Pinwheel Garden at the school. After talking with her we helped with the pinwheels and the whole Key Club jumped right in to make it happen. It is so refreshing to see our young people taking the opportunity to help other children. Thank you to the Holly Pond H.S. Key Club and their sponsor Ms. Alldredge for their love for hurting children.

Cullman Caring for Kids staff and CASA Volunteers planted a pinwheel garden at Depot Park in honor of the 28 children who were killed by Child Abuse and/or Neglect in 2017. These are cases that have been confirmed by the State of Alabama Child Death Review Committee.  This year we used the theme for "Ever Child Deserves a Happy Childhood".

On Friday night and all day Saturday April 6th and 7th Disc Golf enthusiast braved very cold temperatures and rain to help Cullman Caring for kids. The tournament was the idea of Chris Kilgo and a few of his friends. The idea was to raise as much money for Cullman Caring for Kids as possible. The results were awesome in that amount of time and under very, very bad weather conditions they raised over a $1000. If you ask if we know the conditions were bad just look at the picture, that me dressed as an Eskimo.  We can't thank the "Flying Squirrels Disc Golf Club" enough.  They participates from as far away as Iowa, Tennessee and Florida. They hope to have an annual tournament sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association.

Every year a special time is set aside to honor those children who have been killed by Child Abuse or Neglect. President Reagan during his term in office declared April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevent Month and it has been observed since.  The mission of Cullman Caring for Kids is to do all we possibly can to stop Child Abuse and Neglect.
Every day 5 children are killed in the US by Child Abuse and Neglect, every 6 seconds a child is Abused, one in four girls will be sexually assaulted by age 17 and one in five boys will be sexually  abused by age 17. We at Cullman Caring for Kids work on awareness and prevention all year, but especially in April. We are attaching a calendar of events for this month of April 2018. Please feel free to join us at any of the events. Our goal this year is everyone to know that Good Parenting Begins with Education. Please join us in STOPPING CHILD ABUSE in OUR COMMUNITY

The Cullman Lions Club always goes above and beyond.  A few years ago the Cullman Lions Club decided to raise money for the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank by parking car during Rock the South. Lions Fred Osborne and Dennis Berse spearheaded the effort.  With the help of all the Lions Club Members over the years their motto has grown tremendously. As the result  of hard work the Lions raised more than they ever have before. The lions Club Charities matched a portion to bring the total for this year to $25,615.07.  What a great effort by the Cullman Lions Club and a huge BLESSING for the Cullman Caring for Kids Food Bank. There is no way we can ever express our gratitute  for all the hard work and the blessing this will bring to those in need. God Bless the Cullman Lions Club!!
